Rock Guitar & Exploration Pre-Teen Ages 9-12
This camp is a perfect intro for pre-teen beginning students (ages 9-12 year olds) who want to start rocking out and get an excellent start to playing basic chords and songs. Each day the student will learn new techniques. Bass Guitar, basic Drum set, and basic Keyboard will also be introduced during the camp and each student will have an opportunity to try each one and jam together.

Rock Band Pre-teen Ages 10-12
This camp is open to students who have at least 1 year of playing experience (Ages 10-12 years old) on Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboards and Vocals and want to play in a rock band setting. The camp will cover the basics of rhythm and lead playing, and rolls of each instrument and how they should sound and interact in a rock band setting. The group will work on specific songs, practice individually, and together. The band will make a recording on the last day of the camp and receive a Demo CD. Pictures of the group will also be taken and provided after the camp. A drum set, keyboard, Bass and PA system will be provided. Guitarist must bring his or her own instruments and amps.
Rock Guitar Shredding -Teen Ages 13+ (Minimum 1-2 years experience)

Be a Pop Singer Camp (Girls only) Ages 10+
Do you like to sing? This camp is perfect for girls ages 10 and up who like to sing all the time and would like to learn the basics. The theme will be based on the most current female pop star, Taylor Swift etc. Be cool and join this “girls just wanna have fun” style class, which will include voice basics and health, proper warm-up, stage presence, dance moves, and lots of singing! Campers will record a CD on the last day of the camp and also do a performance for parents.
Songwriting Camp – Ages 13 +
Do you have an idea for a song? Here is your chance to express yourself, and get honest feedback for your ideas. This camp will explore many interesting areas for those that have always wanted to write their own lyrics and music. Topics to be covered include, Poetry, Composing and Billboard review. We will get into the details of everything from Rhymes to Copyrights! Bring your ideas!
String Camp For Juniors – Ages 9-11
The Avalon School and Music Center would like to announce the newest addition to its summer music camp schedule: The Junior Summer Strings Camp. Tailored for children ages 9-11, this program was created to give to give young string students the opportunity to gain experience playing elementary string orchestra literature and grow in their performing and reading skills. Our instructor, Michelle Martin, brings the experience of 22 years of private teaching and 12+ years of public school music instruction to the camp. Michelle is currently the homeschooling mom of three young boys, and she understands the need for variety and innovation while providing quality experiences for children. More Information
Who is the Junior Strings Summer Camp designed for? The camp is designed for violin, viola, cello, and bass students with either public school or private lesson experience, who are interested in improving their reading and performing skills and making music with other students of similar interests.
What will students do during the camp? The camp will give the children many opportunities to make music and improve their skills. In addition to plenty of daily ensemble experience, student will grow in a number of important skills such as reading and interpreting notes and rhythms, correct performance technique, and ear training. Skills will be developed in a fun, interesting environment through the use of games, hands-on manipulatives, and challenging and engaging drills.
What are the requirements for participation?
- Students should be between the ages of 9 and 11. (Younger students may participate upon the approval of the instructor.)
- Each student must have his or her own properly-sized instrument and bow in good, working order.
- A shoulder pad is highly recommended for violin and viola players. (Suggested quality brands are Kun, Artino, or Fom.)
- Cello and bass players should have an endpin strap.
- Students should be comfortable performing both pizzicato (plucking) and arco (using the bow).
- Students from both traditional and Suzuki backgrounds are welcome. Performance abilities should range between books 1 and 2.
- Students’ music reading levels should demonstrate the successful completion of (minimum) approximately half of a traditional method book such as All for Strings, book I or Essential Elements for Strings, book I. Through this experience the students should have developed the following basic knowledge/skills:
- Familiarity with the values of quarter, half, and whole notes and rests
- Ability to identify by name, and play songs using (again, minimum) the notes in the one octave D major scale (D, E, F#, G, A, B, C#, D)
